Ned’s functional resume clearly positions him for his career goal in information technology management while minimizing 2 potential negatives: He has never held a formal managerial role and he has been unemployed for more than a year.
CHAPTER 9:
Pop Your Contact Information
The contact information on your resume must jump off the page! In just a few lines, you let employers know how to reach you and how to find out more about you. Here are 5 guidelines:
Put your contact information at the top of your resume. While it’s possible to position this information at the bottom, on the side, or in the middle of a clever design, we don’t recommend it. Your goal is to get a response—an email or a phone call. Make things easy for your readers.
Pop your name. Place your name boldly and distinctly so people know who they are contacting, and to immediately distinguish your resume from all others. Don’t make readers search for your name in the upper-left corner in 10-point type!
Use only 1 phone number and 1 email address. No one is going to call multiple phones or send numerous emails in an effort to contact you. Use your mobile number, so you’re instantly accessible, along with a professional email address (e.g., [email protected] and not [email protected]).
